A SteamID64 is the permanent number behind every Steam account: 17 digits that always start with 7656119, for example 76561198012345678. Game servers use it to recognise players, because it never changes, while your Steam name can change as often as you like. This guide shows three ways to find yours, how to get someone else's, and where our panel asks for it.
Why a server wants your SteamID64
Admin lists, ban lists and allowlists on most Steam games are written as SteamID64s. A server that made someone an admin by name could be fooled by anyone who renamed themselves to match. The number cannot be copied that way, so it is what the game checks.
You will usually need one when you:
- Make yourself or a friend admin on your server
- Ban a player so they stay banned under a new name
- Lock the server to a list of friends
Your SteamID64 is not a secret. It is visible on your public profile, and sharing it gives nobody access to your account.
Method 1: in the Steam client (quickest)
- Open Steam and click your account name in the top right corner
- Choose Account details
- Your Steam ID is shown near the top of the page, under your account name
That number is your SteamID64. Select it and copy it, rather than typing it: one wrong digit points at someone else's account.
Method 2: from your profile link
- In Steam, open your profile
- Look at the web address of the page. If the Steam client does not show addresses, turn on Display web address bars when available under Settings and Interface, or open your profile in a browser instead
- If the address looks like
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198012345678, the number at the end is your SteamID64
If the address looks like https://steamcommunity.com/id/somename instead, you have set a custom URL, and the number is not in the link. Use one of the other methods.
Method 3: from your friend code
- In Steam, open Friends and choose Add a Friend
- At the top you see Your Friend Code, a shorter number
Your friend code is the last part of your SteamID64. Add 76561197960265728 to it and you have the full number. A friend code of 52079950 gives 76561197960265728 + 52079950 = 76561198012345678.
This is handy when you only have the Steam app on a phone, or when a friend reads their code to you in voice chat.
Finding another player's SteamID64
- Ask them. Point them at this page. Method 1 takes them ten seconds.
- Their profile link. If their profile address ends in
/profiles/and a number, that number is it. - A custom URL. For links ending in
/id/somename, there are free lookup websites where you paste the profile link and get the SteamID64 back. They are run by third parties, not by Steam or by us.

Where our panel asks for it
Player Manager tab (Valheim and Rust). Open your server in the game panel and go to Player Manager. Each list, such as Admins or Bans, has a box that takes a SteamID64 or a Steam profile link. Custom /id/ links work too: the panel looks up the account for you and shows the player's name and avatar. On Valheim the box also accepts the ID a crossplay player shows in the game's F2 panel, for players who are not on Steam.
Server admin on Astroneer. The Astroneer Overview has a Server admin card that asks for your Steam name and your SteamID64. Until it is filled in, nobody on the server has admin rights. Restart the server after saving.
Config files in other games. Some games keep admins in a config file you edit in the Files tab, for example Squad's Admins.cfg. Paste the plain 17-digit number wherever such a file expects a Steam ID.

To turn a SteamID3 into a SteamID64, take the last number and add 76561197960265728. For the STEAM_0:Y:Z format, work out Z × 2 + Y first, then add the same constant. In the example, 26039975 × 2 + 0 = 52079950.
Troubleshooting
The number has 16 or 18 digits. A digit was lost or added while copying. Copy it again from the source.
It does not start with 7656119. You have a different ID, most often a friend code or a SteamID3 number. Convert it as shown above.
The panel says it could not find that Steam profile. Check the link is complete and points at a profile page. Paste the plain SteamID64 if in doubt.
The player shows as a bare number without a name or avatar. The panel could not get a name for that number from Steam. That can be a short hiccup on Steam's side, or a sign the number is wrong, so compare it with the player's profile. If the number is right, the entry works anyway, because the server only needs the number.
I added myself as admin but have no powers. Most games only read their admin list while starting, or on the next list refresh. Restart the server and join again.
