The slot count is a server setting and ships at sixteen, which suits most communities. VEIN scales to a considerably larger group if you want a populated map, and that is a memory decision more than anything, so raise the RAM alongside the slots.

Because VEIN keeps a lot alive at once. Persistent loot, vehicles and infected that track sight, sound and smell all run whether or not a player is nearby, so the floor is higher here than for most survival games we host. That is Doom-matched, not a markup.

The password field starts as a placeholder rather than blank, so change it before you open the server up. Leave it as the default and anyone who guesses the obvious value walks in, which is not the surprise you want on a wipe-free world.

There is a public listing toggle in the panel, on by default, which puts you in the in-game browser. Turn it off if you would rather run a private group and hand the address out yourself.

VEIN is in early access and its modding story is still settling, so treat mods as experimental rather than a feature you should plan a community around. You have full FTP access to try what exists, and a backup before you do is the sensible habit.

It stays loaded on our hardware, so the map, your stashes and the vehicles you parked are where you left them. That matters more in VEIN than in a game you can pause, because the world is the shared progress rather than any single character.
