When your server runs out of memory, disk space or backup slots, you can add more yourself from the panel in a couple of minutes. You pay only for the days left in your current billing period, nothing is reinstalled, and your worlds and files stay exactly where they are. Going the other way is more limited, and this guide explains exactly what you can and cannot lower yourself.
Where to find it
- Open the game panel and select your server
- On the Overview tab, click Upgrade Server next to the Server Details heading. You can also find Upgrade Server in the More actions menu at the top of the server page
When your server is close to its memory or disk limit, the panel may also show a banner with an Upgrade Server button. It leads to the same page.
The upgrade page is only available to the account that owns the server, and only while the server is active. If you have scheduled a cancellation, withdraw it first, as described in our guide to cancelling.
What you can change
The page opens with Current Specifications, your RAM and storage today. Below it, everything you can change:

Pick what you want. The summary at the bottom of the page updates with every choice, so you see the effect on the price before you commit.
What it costs: you pay only for the days that are left
The Upgrade Summary lists every change as old value and new value, and then two prices:
- Prorated Upgrade Cost is what you pay today. The line under it shows how many days are left in your current period
- New Price is what your server costs from the next renewal on, marked Effective from next billing period
The prorated cost is the extra monthly amount of your changes, scaled to the days that remain. Say your changes add 40 to the monthly price and 15 of the 30 days in your period are left. Then you pay 20 today, and from the next renewal the full new price applies. If you pay per quarter, half year or year, the discount for that period applies to the upgrade too.
Very small amounts are not charged at all. When the prorated cost falls below the minimum a payment provider will process, the panel applies the upgrade straight away with no payment, and the new price simply starts at the next renewal.
Click Confirm Upgrade and pay the invoice on the payment page. The upgrade is applied as soon as the payment goes through.
After the upgrade
Back on your server, the panel shows Upgrade applied with a list of what changed. When RAM, storage or CPU threads changed, it also asks you to restart, because the game only picks up the new resources on its next start. Click Restart now, or choose Later and restart when it suits your players.
Nothing else happens to your server. Nothing is reinstalled, and your worlds, mods, configuration and backups are left untouched.
Two kinds of change are not instant. A Plan change moves your server to different hardware, and our team carries out that move by hand afterwards. Your server keeps its files, but allow some time before it runs on the new plan. Dedicated IP and Subdomain are also set up by our team after the upgrade rather than switched on by the panel, so they are not active the moment you pay.
Downgrading: what you can lower yourself
The upgrade page only goes upwards for RAM, Storage, Backup Slots and CPU Threads. You cannot pick a value below what you have today.
Two things you can lower yourself on the same page:
- Plan. If your game has more than one plan, pick the cheaper one. Its card shows Lower price instead of an extra cost. This only works when your current RAM fits the range of the cheaper plan
- Configurable Options. Click an option that is switched on to turn it off
Lowering never pays anything back for the current period. You keep what you paid for until the renewal date, and from the next period your server is billed at the lower price. If you lower one thing and raise another in the same upgrade, you pay for the addition as usual. The reduction is not subtracted from it.

Troubleshooting
Confirm Upgrade is greyed out. Nothing has changed yet, so pick at least one new value. If the page shows Unpaid Invoice Found instead of the options, there is an open invoice on the server. Pay it first; the page links straight to it.
I cannot find Upgrade Server. You are probably not the owner of the server, the server is not active, or a cancellation is scheduled. A server shared with you through team access can only be upgraded by the owner. A suspended server must be paid first.
The game does not use the extra RAM. Restart the server. The new limit is in place right away, but the running game only sees it after a restart.
My plan change has not happened yet. Plan changes are carried out by hand. If your server still runs on the old plan a day later, contact us through the support page.
Frequently asked questions
Will I lose anything when I upgrade? No. An upgrade only changes the limits of the server. Your files are not touched.
Is there downtime? Only the restart you choose to do afterwards.
Why did I pay less than the monthly difference? Because you only pay for the days left in the current period. The full new price starts at the next renewal.
Can I upgrade a server that is overdue? Not until the open invoice is paid. Pay it, and the upgrade page works as normal.
