Installing Oxide on Your Rust Server
Oxide (uMod) is the most widely used modding framework for Rust. With it, your server can run plugins for moderation, configuration, events, minigames and much more. The game panel installs Oxide for you and lets you install plugins from uMod with a click.
Prerequisites
- An active Rust server from SpillHosting
Step 1: Open the Plugins tab
- Log in on the SpillHosting website with your SpillHosting account
- Open the game panel and select your Rust server
- Open the Plugins tab. On a server without a framework it says that plugins need a mod framework
Step 2: Enable Oxide
- Choose Oxide, which is marked as recommended. Carbon is a newer alternative that runs the same plugins
- Leave Back up my server first on. It saves a restore point before the change
- Click Enable Oxide
The panel reinstalls the server with Oxide. This takes a few minutes, and your map and save are kept.
Step 3: Wait for the server to start
With the panel open, the server starts by itself when the reinstall is done. If you closed it, press Start in the server header. Wait for the server to finish booting in the Console tab. The first start after the change takes a little longer.
Step 4: Verify the installation
Type oxide.version in the Console tab. The server answers with the installed Oxide version.
Step 5: Install plugins
On the Plugins tab, search uMod under Browse and click Install on the plugin you want. A running server loads the plugin automatically within a few seconds. The Installed list shows what is on the server and lets you uninstall plugins again.
To switch to Carbon or turn plugins off again, use Change framework on the same tab. Oxide and Carbon load plugins from separate folders, so installed plugins do not carry over between them.
Common issues
Oxide not installing
- Wait until the reinstall has finished before you start the server
- If your backup slots are full, free one or turn off the backup option
- Check the console for error messages
Version check fails
- Give the server more time to finish booting
- Restart the server if the command does not work straight away
- Check the console for error messages
