Getting Started with Your Terraria Server
This guide covers everything you need to set up your Terraria dedicated server and start playing with friends.
Prerequisites
- An active Terraria server from SpillHosting
- Terraria installed on your PC via Steam
- Your server IP and port from the control panel
Step 1: Access the Control Panel
- Go to panel.spillhosting.no
- Log in with your credentials
- Select your Terraria server
Step 2: Configure Your Server
- Go to the Startup tab
- Set your World Name — this creates a new world with this name
- Set a Server Password if you want to restrict access
- Choose your World Size — Small, Medium, or Large
- Choose the Difficulty — Classic, Expert, Master, or Journey
- Set Max Players (default: 8)
- Click Save
Step 3: Start the Server
- Navigate to the Console tab
- Click Start
- Wait for the world to generate — larger worlds take more time on first boot
The server is ready when you see "Listening on port" in the console.
Step 4: Connect to Your Server
- Launch Terraria
- Select Multiplayer
- Select your character
- Click Join via IP
- Enter your server IP address
- Enter the port number
- Enter the password if required
Step 5: Set Up Admin Access
To manage your server in-game, you need the admin password:
- Check the Startup tab for the admin password
- In-game, open chat and type
/password [admin_password] - You now have admin access to run server commands
Essential Server Commands
Use these in the server console or in-game with admin access:

Troubleshooting
Can't Connect
- Verify the server is running and fully started
- Double-check the IP and port number
- Ensure you're entering the correct password
- Check that your Terraria version matches the server version
World Won't Generate
- Ensure enough disk space is available
- Try a smaller world size first
- Check console logs for specific errors
Lag or Desync
- Use a server location closest to your player group
- Reduce the max player count
- Boss fights and events with many entities may cause temporary lag
