- Valheim installed on your PC via Steam
- Your server IP address and port (found in the control panel)

- Adjust the World Name if desired (default is fine for most users)
- Click Save to apply changes
Step 3: Start the Server
- Go to the Console tab
- Click Start to boot your server
- Wait for the server to fully initialize — the first startup may take a few minutes as it generates the world
Look for "Game server connected" in the console to confirm the server is ready.
Step 4: Connect to Your Server
Using the Server Browser
- Open Valheim and click Start Game
- Select your character and click Start
- Click Join Game and then the Join IP tab
- Enter your server IP and port (e.g.,
123.456.78.90:2456) - Enter your server password when prompted
Using Steam Server Browser
- In Steam, go to View > Game Servers
- Click the Favorites tab
- Click Add a Server and enter your server IP:port
- Click Add This Address to Favorites
- Select the server and click Connect
Step 5: Verify Everything Works
Once connected, check the following:
- You can place and destroy objects
- Other players can connect using the same IP
- The world saves correctly (check console for save messages)
Troubleshooting
Can't Connect to Server
- Ensure the server is fully started (check the console)
- Double-check the IP address and port
- Make sure you're entering the correct password
- Verify the server is not in the middle of a restart
Server Crashes on Start
- Check the console logs for error messages
- Ensure you have enough RAM allocated
- Try resetting to default startup settings
High Latency
- Choose a server location closest to you and your players
