Getting Started with Your Enshrouded Server

This guide walks you through setting up your Enshrouded dedicated server, controlling who gets admin rights, and playing with friends.

Prerequisites

• An active Enshrouded server from SpillHosting
• Enshrouded installed on your PC via Steam
• Your server address, which you find in the game panel

Step 1: Open your server

1. Log in on the SpillHosting website with your SpillHosting account
2. Open the game panel and select your Enshrouded server
3. The Overview tab shows the server address and the four group passwords, each with a reveal and copy button

Step 2: Configure your server

Open the Startup tab:

1. Set the Server Name
2. Set Max Players (up to 16)
3. Change the four group passwords: Admin, Friend, Guest and Visitor

Each field saves on its own as soon as you change it, and applies on the next start.

The four group passwords

Enshrouded has no single server password. Each player joins with one of four passwords, and the password decides what they can do:

• Admin: everything, including kicking and banning players. Keep it to yourself
• Friend: build, extend the base and use inventories
• Guest: play and explore, but no base editing and no opening inventories
• Visitor: look, but do not touch

A new server ships with default passwords, so change all four before you invite anybody. All four must be different: Enshrouded refuses to start when two of them match. A password also cannot consist of digits only.

Step 3: Start the server

1. Press Start in the server header
2. Open the Console tab and wait for the server to finish booting

The first boot can take several minutes while the server installs its files and creates the world.

Step 4: Connect to your server

1. Launch Enshrouded, click Play, then Join
2. Press Search By IPv4 / Domain and paste the full address from the panel, port included
3. Choose Add To Favorites
4. Join, and enter one of the group passwords

Step 5: Gameplay settings

Open the Config tab to change the difficulty preset, chat and the gameplay settings of enshrouded_server.json. The detailed values only take effect with the Custom difficulty preset. With the other presets the game uses its own built-in values.

Server name, player count and group passwords are always taken from the Startup tab, so change them there rather than in the file.

Saves and backups

• The world is stored on the server, in the savegame folder
• Player characters are stored on each player's own PC
• The Backups tab takes a backup of the whole server with Create backup, and restores it later. Make one before big changes

Troubleshooting

Can't find the server

• Search by the address instead of browsing the server list
• Include the port, exactly as the panel shows it
• Give a freshly started server a minute before searching

Server does not start after changing passwords

• Two of the group passwords are identical. Make all four different and start again

Connection failed

• Check that the server is running
• Double-check the address and port
• Make sure the password is correct
• Check that your Enshrouded version matches the server

Performance issues

• Enshrouded is demanding, so make sure the server has enough RAM
• Limit the number of simultaneous players if you experience lag
• Large builds in a small area can affect performance
