Getting Started with Your Enshrouded Server
This guide walks you through setting up your Enshrouded dedicated server and playing with friends.
Prerequisites
- An active Enshrouded server from SpillHosting
- Enshrouded installed on your PC via Steam
- Your server IP and port from the control panel
Step 1: Access the Control Panel
- Go to panel.spillhosting.no
- Log in with your credentials
- Select your Enshrouded server
Step 2: Configure Your Server
- Navigate to the Startup tab
- Set your Server Name
- Set a Server Password for private access
- Configure Max Players (up to 16)
- Click Save
Step 3: Start the Server
- Go to the Console tab
- Click Start
- Wait for the server to fully initialize
The first boot may take several minutes as the server sets up the world and required files.
Step 4: Connect to Your Server
- Launch Enshrouded
- From the main menu, select Play
- Select your character (or create a new one)
- Click Join
- Click Add Server and enter your IP and port
- Select the server and click Join
- Enter the password when prompted
Step 5: Managing the Server
Server Configuration File
For advanced settings, edit the server config:
- Connect via SFTP
- Navigate to the server root directory
- Open
enshrouded_server.json - Modify settings as needed
- Save and restart the server

Save System
Enshrouded's save system works differently from many other games:
- The world is tied to the server, not individual players
- Player characters are stored locally on each player's PC
- World progress (builds, terrain changes) is saved server-side
Backing Up Your World
- Stop the server
- Connect via SFTP
- Download the save files from the server's save directory
- Store them safely on your local machine
Troubleshooting
Can't Find Server
- Use direct IP connection instead of the server browser
- Ensure the server has fully started
- Check the correct port number in your control panel
Connection Failed
- Verify the server is running
- Double-check the IP and port
- Ensure the password is correct
- Check that your Enshrouded game version matches the server
Performance Issues
- Enshrouded can be demanding — ensure your server has adequate RAM
- Limit the number of simultaneous players if experiencing lag
- Large builds in a small area can impact performance
