Palworld World Backups and Management
Keeping your Palworld world safe is crucial. This guide explains how to manage your world saves, create backups, and restore them when needed.
World Save Location
Your Palworld world data is stored at:
/Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/[ServerID]/
This folder contains:
Level.sav— Main world dataLevelMeta.sav— World metadataPlayers/— Individual player save filesLocalData.sav— Local server data
Creating a Backup
Manual Backup via SFTP
- Stop your server to ensure data integrity
- Connect to your server via SFTP
- Navigate to the save directory
- Download the entire
[ServerID]folder - Store it safely on your local machine
Quick Backup via Console
- Open the console in the control panel
- Type
Saveto force a world save - Then proceed with downloading the files
Tip: Always stop the server before downloading saves for a clean backup. A running server may have unsaved data in memory.
Restoring a Backup
- Stop your server
- Connect via SFTP
- Navigate to
/Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ - Upload your backup folder, replacing the existing save
- Ensure the folder name matches the original
[ServerID] - Start your server
Important: The folder name (ServerID) must match exactly. If you're restoring to a new server, you may need to update the save folder name.
Resetting Your World
To start completely fresh:
- Stop your server
- Connect via SFTP
- Navigate to
/Pal/Saved/SaveGames/0/ - Delete or rename the existing save folder
- Start the server — a new world will be generated
Warning: This permanently deletes your world. Always create a backup first!
Transferring Saves Between Servers
- Create a full backup from your old server (entire save folder)
- Set up your new server and let it start once to generate file structure
- Stop the new server
- Upload the save folder from the old server to the same path
- Start the new server
Player Save Issues
If a specific player has issues (lost items, stuck character):
- Navigate to the
Players/folder inside the save directory - Each player has a
.savfile named by their ID - Removing a player's
.savfile will reset their character - The player will start fresh but the world remains intact
Best Practices
- Schedule regular backups — Download saves at least once a week
- Backup before updates — Game updates can sometimes cause save issues
- Keep multiple versions — Store at least 3 dated backups
- Label backups clearly — Include the date and server version in folder names
- Force save before stopping — Use the
Savecommand before shutting down
