Satisfactory Save File Management

Learn how to manage your Satisfactory save files, including backups, transfers from single-player, and restoring from backups.

Save File Location

Satisfactory saves are stored on your server at:

/.config/Epic/FactoryGame/Saved/SaveGames/server/

Save files use the .sav extension and are named based on your session name.

Backing Up Your Save

  1. Stop your server or trigger a manual save through the Server Manager
  2. Connect to your server via SFTP
  3. Navigate to the save directory
  4. Download all .sav files you want to back up
  5. Store them safely on your local machine

Tip: Save files can be quite large for complex factories. Make sure you have enough local storage.

Transferring a Single-Player Save to Server

You can continue your single-player world on your dedicated server:

  1. Find your local saves at:
    • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\FactoryGame\Saved\SaveGames\[SteamID]\
  2. Copy the .sav file you want to transfer
  3. Stop your server
  4. Upload the .sav file via SFTP to the server's save directory
  5. Start your server
  6. In the Server Manager, click Load Game
  7. Select the uploaded save file

Restoring a Backup

  1. Stop your server
  2. Connect via SFTP
  3. Upload your backup .sav file to the save directory
  4. Start the server
  5. Load the save through the Server Manager

Starting Fresh

To begin a new game:

  1. Open the Server Manager in-game
  2. Click Create Game
  3. Choose your settings and starting area
  4. The old save remains available to load later

To fully remove old saves:

  1. Stop your server
  2. Delete the unwanted .sav files via SFTP
  3. Start the server and create a new game

Auto-Save Configuration

Configure auto-saves through the in-game Server Manager:

  • Default interval is every 5 minutes
  • Adjust based on your preference — shorter intervals mean less progress lost on crashes

Best Practices

  • Back up before game updates — Major updates can occasionally cause save issues
  • Keep dated backups — Name backup folders with dates for easy identification
  • Save before experimenting — If you're rearranging large factory sections, save first
  • Monitor save file sizes — Very large saves may impact server performance
